Air pollution and respiratory health: a multinational needs assessment of physicians
Air pollution is a major threat to human health globally, but physicians’ awareness of its specific health impacts and the extent they educate patients remain poorly understood.
Although general practitioners and pulmonologists recognise their role in assessing, managing and educating patients about air pollution exposure, their perception of this role and competencies within it indicate the need for educational support translating to impactful practice.
A Performance and Quality Improvement Intervention Integrating Molecular Testing to Support Personalized Cancer Care in Lung and Thyroid Cancers
Molecular testing has been underutilized in the diagnosis and treatment of cancer patients, despite its potential to significantly impact clinical decision-making and resulting health outcomes.
This project aimed to evaluate the process and impact of a performance/quality improvement (PI/QI) intervention to optimize the integration of molecular testing for patients with non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) or thyroid cancer (TC).
The PI/QI intervention enabled health care teams at both sites to achieve targeted changes in molecular testing, despite a busy clinical environment. These findings can serve other cancer centers aiming to increase molecular testing integration within their teams and institution.
The results underscore the need for improved rare disease recognition, multidisciplinary collaboration, and system-level approaches to support timely diagnosis and optimal patient management.
